In April, Oak Farm hosted the Uxbridge and District Primary Schools’ Tag-Rugby tournament for children in years 4 and 5. It was a fantastic event, with 13 teams entered from 8 different schools.
In the group stages, the Oak Farm ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams both played some terrific rugby. Unfortunately, both sides narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals. The ‘B’ team had three very close matches while the ‘C’ team lost out on tries scored.
Our ‘A’ team, meanwhile, came through their group in first position after two wins and were then victorious against St. Helens’ in the quarter-finals. The semi-final was a close and exciting match against Hillingdon Primary but Oak Farm had the upper-hand and, thanks to some brilliant tries and determined defence, moved through to the final against Cherry Lane.
The final proved to be a superb game between two evenly-matched teams, with first one team and then the other taking the lead. With the score tied at 3-3, the game entered its nail-biting conclusion. Both sides had opportunities to win the game but both defences were fantastic in denying their opponents the crucial score. Eventually, well into additional time, Oak Farm broke away; a fine, darting run by Max was followed by a terrific pass to Shae and he sped away from the Cherry Lane defence to touch down to the delight of the team and the many supporters!
Huge thanks to Miss Mitchell for organising the competition and to all of the fabulous Oak Farm supporters and well done to all of our Year 4 and 5 tag-rugby competitors:
