Q:Dear Mr Mills I am saddened to find out that the Oakfarm Junior site is once again in need of updating. I have been using the breakfast club form as found on your download link to book my child in at the stated price of ã3.25 only to find that I am being charged ã3.50 via my parent mail account. Please can you arrange to have this amended. Many thanks.

Thank you for this information. I will deal with this straight away.
Mr Mills

Q:I just want to say that I disagree with your ofstead report. Your school has happy children who learn well and feel not only looked after but valued. Please don't let this inspection drag you or your team down. You all do a great job.

Thank you very ,much for your kind words, they are very much appreciated by myself and the whole staff team.

Q:Hi Mr Mills, Sorry to bother you again but this "cashless" payment system is causing nothing but grief to us parents. I have credited my account but it doesn't show me on parent mail where it is and also what transactions have been made and what would be outstanding. We as parents feel for the poor Chef who is being bombarded nearly everyday with us parents, please could you kindly advise and offer any support as he is doing his absolute best with us. Also the bread and water again is very cruel the kids should not be penalised for the technology mistakes, the kids are even worried whether they will be fed! I would like to reiterate the Chef is working his hardest to solve. Thank you Mr Mills

Many thanks for your e:mail. The school is aware of the current difficulties regarding the new cashless system and has been working with Pabulum to find effective solutions.

Pabulum have now allocated a manager to deal directly with all parental concerns regarding the new cashless system and his e:mail contact details will be sent out to all parents shortly via Parent mail.

Pabulum have also agreed that the salad meal option will be replaced with a jacket potato meal.

My hope is that these two actions and other work undertaken will overcome the current difficulties.

Q: Hi Mr Mills, I write with regards to the cashless system for lunches. It has got a bit confusing and just wondered why us parents weren't given more time to get our heads around this rather than be given at the last day of term? I did try to call Pabulum during half term but referred me to the school. Also if our children's accounts are NOT paid its seems a bit harsh to give them just bread and water especially as system errors can happen. I have loaded money onto the new system but it shows I am in debt, I am in touch with Pabulum but it is a new system to them too. Please advise why were not given more time to administer this or a choice of either payment and also the bread and water substitute. Thanks as always

Prior to informing parents before half term, we checked several times that everything was ready. We then gave parents the half term holiday to load their accounts. I am sorry that you are having difficulties, please contact Mrs R Batra in school who will do her best to help you.

Q: In regards to the recent letter asking for voluntary contributions towards the cost of running the junior school have you looked at ways of saving money? For example the fortnightly newsletter to every child in the school, can this not be done via ParentMail and the website?

Mrs Jacob
Thank you for your comment. The school has been reducing costs for the last two years and continues to do so. The current prediction regarding school funding is that funding will continue to be very tight until at least 2020. The aim of this fund is to try and maintain the current high quality of education that Oak Farm Junior School provides for all its children. I will forward you suggestion regarding the newsletter to SLT for discussion.
Many Thanks
Mr Mills

Q: The school website states that school dinners are ã2 per day, your recent parent mail communication regarding cashless payments infers that school dinners are ã2.05. Please can you advise when this increase happened or is it due to happen. Many thanks

My Apologies for the website not being up to date. The current lunchtime meal charge is £2:05. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused. I will get the website updated as soon as possible.
Mr Mills

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Could you please confirm the price of the school lunch meals. Thank you

Good morning
My understanding is that meals cost £2-05 per day.

Q:Hi, I received a text message this morning from the junior school informing me of the Exhibition Evening being held tomorrow (Wednesday) 3-5pm. I don't recall any information on this event earlier. Whilst I try to ensure I attend all such events for my children, as a working parent, it is hard to plan time-off/work around these events when given such short notice, in this case, one day. Apologies if there was a communication sent out earlier, however as mentioned, it is not something I was aware of, and also looking at the 'Our Calendar' link, I don't see the Exhibition Evening mentioned there anyway. please can I ask such events are notified in advance to help parent plan better for attending. We have text, parent mail and even the calendar link that can be used. Thanks

Mrs Patel
Thank you for this e:mail and I can only apologise if we did not advertise this event clearly. It is always our intention to give parents enough time to make appropriate arrangements and we will try to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.

Q:Dear Mr Mills, I hope that you, your staff and pupils are surviving the heatwave!? I am with Scarlett Morris (I am her Rabbi) and we are chatting together whilst the rest of the family are at the hospice with her father. I was there earlier and will be later as well. When Scarlett was at the Infant School, I was invited by Mrs Shasha to lead a few assemblies. I know that this was prompted by Scarlett who was happy to see her faith leader present at her school but hopefully the fact that I had an invite back means I did an ok job. I would be honoured to come to do an assembly or support Year 5 with their national curriculum work if you are not receiving support from elsewhere in the Jewish Community. You can check me and our synagogue out at npls.org.uk I do hope to hear from you and thank you for reading this request. Rabbi Aaron Goldstein

Rabbi Aaron Goldstein
Many thanks for your kind offer. I will discuss it with my senior leaders and then if required, I will pass your details onto our RE coordinator.

Q: Hi Mr Mills, Just wondering if you would like fans for the classrooms in case you don't have any as I have some spare as my little one in year 3 said there was no fan in his classroom. Also re suncream cant each class buy a suncream lotion and for it to be shared out between pupils and we contribute the cost as parents? thx

Thank you for your kind offer. We have ordered some additional fans that should arrive soon. With regard to sun cream, parents are requested to supply this for their own child as shared cream can cause difficulties with infections or allergies.

Q:Hi Mr Mills, Just a few things. Firstly well done on the Year 6 Lifeskill course the other week, it really was an excellent and informative course having attended as a parent volunteer myself, well done on this. Secondly, will you be running year 6 sats groups in the easter period? I have heard many schools eg Ryefield School are doing this and wonder if you will be? I know Year 6 have been given a stack of homework but some of the questions go well beyond a few of us parents whether we are graduates or not as there are a lot of new areas taught (eg progressive tense) that we have never taught. Lastly will you be introducing any kind of E Learning eg DB Primary or something so kids can log into and do exercises and monitor progress (instead of playing games on their laptops all day!). Thanks as always Mr Mills

Thank you for your question. We do not run Easter classes during the holiday. The school has developed a booster model over recent years, which has helped to impact on outcomes in school. We do not currently have a specific e:learning program, however children are aware of appropriate sites to support their learning.
Mr Mills

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Regarding the Year 3 & 4 Production 'Splash': 1. We've been told that the production will be at 7pm each night, but what time do the children need to be at school if they have a part? The Infant School are holding a Parent's Evening on one of the evenings so we need to coordinate! A quick response would be appreciated so we can book a suitable Parent's Evening slot. 2. Will tickets be available and is there a limit on how many per family? Thank you.

Thank you for your question regarding the upcoming production. A letter will be going home soon with all key information included, but to help you plan ahead, children will be asked to arrive at about
6-40pm. Initially two tickets per family are made available but if there are tickets left over, we then will offer them out again. I hope this helps.

Q: Hello Mr Mills Just a suggestion but could you please give other children a chance to join the team to represent the school for different sports i.e football, swimming, rugby, athletics, cross country as it is always the same perfect peter's and super sue's for every single sport that isn't fair is it? I am sure there are many children who are very talented and have not been encouraged or even given the chance to represent their school in even a single sport! They could possibly shine if at least given the chance. It is very disheartening for a child i would say to Go to apply for every single sport and never ever get chosen for anything and just to find out that the same children are chosen time and time again for every single sport.. I'd give up to be honest. I am sure not everyone is perfect for every single sport, they can't be. It is not about perfection anyway it is about giving all children the chance to shine not only the perfect peter's and super sue's, they can be there for 3 sports but allow other children to represent the school in at least one sport. By the way why is there no year 5 football, basketball, or handball team? Only year 6! Yet one or two selectively chosen year 5's play with the year 6's and represent the school. How about the rest of the average footballers in year 5 i am sure they'd like to play for the school! Yours sincerely Ms Bridie Bracey

Thank you for your question regarding school sports teams. All school teams are picked, based on trials and in most events we enter two or even three teams. Children are selected on ability and teamwork. I am sorry that not every child can participate, however the school does run a wide variety of after school clubs and activities to try and ensure that all children can demonstrate their ability in different ways.

Q:Hello Mr Mills, I wanted to get in touch with you to stress my disappointment with Pabulum and especially the Xmas lunch this year. The vegetarian option seem to have run out and I heard a lot of the kids in the juniors had to 'enjoy' a Christmas meal consisting of vegetables. This is really disappointing as I don't understand how food can run out, especially when parents were asked to provide the options in advance, and juniors pay for school meals? My son, who is in juniors, has also in the past mentioned to me how the stated meal options run out by the time infants have finished and it is juniors' turn for lunch. This is truly disappointing, especially when we are paying for our kids to have a warm, cooked school meal only to find they run out. Can Pabulum please plan better so all kids are given the deserved options please? Thanks.

Many thanks for your comments.
Both schools are aware of the problems with the Christmas dinner and we have passed those concerns onto the management at Pabulum. We have asked to discuss this matter with them at our next meeting.

Yours

Mr Mills

Q: Dear Mr Mills, Revin recently performed at a lunctime recital as a guest artist in the United Reformed Church in Marlow. he played his violin really well and the audience loved him. He had a very good response and had to come back for another bow! He will be performing again on Novemeber 16th. Attached below is link of his performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOAWDETXXtQ It will be really good for Revin to perform at the Christmas concert in school and the Christmas assembly/play. He could perform carols if required. Do let us know as he can start preparing for them. It will be really good for the other students and motivate them to learn an instrument as well. Look forward to hearing from you. Many Thanks, Nisha.

What a fantastic achievement for Revin. You must be very proud of him. I will pass this information on to Mrs Stonely, who is our music Co-coordinator and arranges concerts.

Dear Savanna

Parents apply to a wide range of grammar schools outside the area. Parents criteria range from distance to travel, to well known schools. I suggest that you look on line, once that you have decided your criteria.

Q:Hi Mr Mills, I am struggling with the website at the moment, a lot of the information seems to be out of date so is making my job as a parent much harder than it should be. Im sorry to complain about it but i think its important that the website is updated and kept up-to date as its very important for all the parents to have this information readily available. In the Noticeboard section: Swimming timetable - seems to be for Autumn 2014 Parent Information link - contains outdated information dating back to before the summer/spring term of 2015 as the cost is stated as ã1.90. I can tell this because of the cost of the school meals which is currently ã2 The document also says breakfast club booking forms can be downloaded from the school website which i am not able to find. Within the Newsletters area the latest newsletters have not been published. We have not been given details to access Fronter for my child as yet so that important part of home working and interaction is not happening. The Lunches area seems to have some information which is partially current. The text says the cost of the school meal is ã1.95 which is not accurate as the price increased in April to ã2. The Our Calendar area only seems to have information about the current month, we are not able to plan ahead with the information in this area it does not reflect when the school will be closed either or when events will be taking place outside of the current month. The most upto date area is your twitter feed but this does not give the parents the more structured information we are looking for Can you please look to address the content on the website. My expectations are high coming from the infants school, but i would expect this from the Junior School also. Thanks Mr Patel

Mr Patel
Thank you for identifying areas of the website that are not up to date. This is clearly an over site on our part and something that we need to overcome.

There are a couple of areas of concern that I will comment on directly.

The school dinner providers are currently producing an app that will give clear and up to date information to parents. The app is in the final stages of planning.

The Junior school no longer user Fronter as a platform as we felt that it was not value for money.

Finally the school no longer manages the breakfast club and my understanding is that Pabulum who are our school meal providers as well as our breakfast club providers will include the breakfast club oinformation within their their app.
Mr Mills

I will endeavour to deal with the other issues that you raised.

Q: Please could you advise on your uniform policy and how you ensure that all pupils follow the guidelines, as my daughter was sent home with a note stating she could not wear a cardigan as it was not part of the school uniform and on this letter it states no trainers or boots, over the last week I have noticed an increase in the amount of children wearing trainers and boots, will they all be receiving a letter home too as I have spoken to some of the parents and they have not yet received one?

Roxy
Many thanks for your inquiry regarding school uniform. The uniform policy is on the web site and we are consistently trying to ensure that it is complied with. I will ensure that this is an item for the next newsletter.
Yours Mr Mills.

Q:Hi Mr Mills, last week's newsletter came home on friday and I was a little surprised about the star of the week. There are no mentions of the children from the first week of school. My son received the star of the week in the first week and was looking forward to everything associated with it including his name in the newsletter. However he did not get recognised for it nor did he get a prize. He's been very down about all of this since he came home today and I thought I should highlight as soon as possible. Regards, Mr Patel

Mr Patel
The children that receive the star of the week badge are celebrated in the school celebration assembly on the Monday and their names are then printed in the newsletter every two weeks. If this did not happen I apologise. I will speak to the staff who produce the news letter to check that this is being done. You also mention a prize. This is something that has to my knowledge never been done. my feeling is that the star and celebration of success is what is important.

Q:Hi Mr Mills Parents mail seems a much more efficient system so thank you for this. Just wondering if we need to set up an account per child or whether siblings will be automatically included? Reason for asking is I have completed a form re ethnicity for both children but i cant see any forms for my younger sibling who has just joined year 3? or perhaps there are none as yet? Also i cant see any payments for the year 6 trips other than the 5 day one? can you kindly advise Thanks as always

Jaspreet
Many thanks for your comments regarding Parent Mail. my understanding is that each child will need an account. We are introducing the system slowly but eventually all trips and dinner monies will be managed this way.

Q:Hi Mr Mills Sorry if this is the not the right way to inform you (please advise if so) but there is pigeon excrement on the garden tables nearby the learning zone. Hopefully kids aren't eating there having seen it but could this be cleaned and monitored as I suppose could happen again as it sits under trees. Just wondered if other areas could be monitored for this as pigeons are vermin and their excrement I would assume is highly toxic thanks as always

Jas
Many thanks for this important information. I will ask the school caretaker to deal with it immediately.

Q:I would be grateful for an explanation and clarification of the schools policy on swimming costumes for year 4 swimming lessons. The letter that was sent before the summer holidays specified that girls had to have a one piece swimming costume. No explanation was given for this requirement. My daughter already had a two piece swimming costume (rash vest and trunks style, not a bikini), and we could see no reason why this would not be perfectly adequate. However, to comply with the schools requirement we bought her a one piece costume. It took several hours spread over two separate shopping trips to find a one piece costume that fitted. Today my daughter had her first school swimming lesson and was told that the style of her costume was unacceptable, and she would not be able to participate in future lessons unless we purchased another costume in a different style. There was no mention in the letter that was sent before the summer holidays that any particular style was required, over and above the requirement for a one piece costume. I am now faced with having to buy yet another swimming costume, on the strength of my daughter's understanding of what she was told at the swimming pool about the required style. It is unacceptable to impose requirements with no explanation, and then to change those requirements retrospectively after parents have gone to time and effort to comply with the requirement as originally stated. If a particular style of costume is required, this has to be clearly stated at the outset.

Mrs L Davies
I regret that there has been a difficulty with the swimsuit. I will be talking to Mr Betts and asking him to look into this matter and to clarify any errors in the letter that you received and to contact you.. This is a standard letter that we send out every year and therefor I do not understand why there has been a problem at the pool.

My understanding is that each child will need an account. We are currently building up the use of Parent mail and will slowly be adding more trips to the system. We are also discussing the use of the system for dinner monies. Eventually all financial transactions will be managed through this new system.

Q: My daughter in year 4 was told to sit out of pe today because she had plimsolls rather than trainers, but your uniform policy says either are fine. If we had known she needed trainers to play football she would have brought them in. Could you make sure information gets to the children and parents before hand so the children don't miss out on activities.

Manby thanks for this communication. I will ask Mr Betts who leads Year 4 to ensure that this situation does not happen again.

Q: Hi, I read on the school twitter feed there are sports clubs starting next week and letters sent this week. We have not received any letters for year 3 and it also says there are no more spaces. What is the procedure for informing parents of school clubs/activities options for junior students please?

Mrs Patel
Thank you for your question. We inform parents of school clubs by letter. These letters are given to children. Letters have a reply slip to return. In this instance there were only 16 places in the group available and the first 16 names returned were offered places. This information was then sent out on Twitter. If your child has returned the slip and not been offered a place this time,a place will be offered later in the year for the next set of sessions.

Q: Hi Mr Mills could you advise if sports day is going ahead on Monday 11th as it was postponed on Friday due to weather although ironically it turned out to be a good day weather wise. I have left a few messages on twitter with no reply and I send this on behalf of us parents who have to take time off work to support the little ones at short notice. There was nothing on the website either Thanks Jas

Q: Dear Mr Mills, Re: Leavers evening and disco I wish my child to attend the awards ceremony, however I DO NOT want her to attend the disco. Please can you let me know what arrangements can made for this, and do we need to pay towards the cost. What time is the disco arranged for, so that I can come over and collect her. Many thanks for your question, I have passed it on to Miss Mitchell in year 6 and school will be in touch in the near future.

Q:Dear Mr Mills, Apologies this is not an 'ask Mr Mills' question but some feedback. As you are aware my son, Tom has been unwell with a very high temperature. He was supposed to be on the coach trip to PGL on the Isle of Wight but unfortunately could not make it on Monday. I went to school at 06:15 on Monday morning to explain to both Mr Sweeney and Miss Mitchell that Tom could not attend the PGL trip as he was not well. They both suggested that if his health did improve, there was no reason why Tom could not join them as long I got him there! Miss Mitchell gave me her mobile number so we could update each other on his progress. On Monday evening, Miss Mitchell organised a 'video' with the other kids Tom was supposed to be sharing with and sent it to me. I showed Tom and he was overjoyed. Probably the first time he smiled in days! I thought with the antibiotics he was prescribed, he would be okay to go on Tuesday, but unfortunately that was not the case and he was in fact worse with a temperature of over 39.5 degrees. The reason for this email is that from 06:15 on Monday morning until I eventually got him there at 08:15 on Wednesday, Miss Mitchell kept in contact and was very accommodating, to the extent she even said if I could get Tom there late at night, they would 'sort it out' and it would not be a problem. I showed Tom the texts I received and I believe this helped in his recovery! When we got there on Wednesday, Miss Mitchell was outside waiting for Tom to arrive and the look on his face was worth seeing!! She even organised breakfast for me!! I would like to highlight Miss Mitchell and Mr Sweeney but I am sure there are others who equally deserve credit for their hard work at PGL. They are all either insane or extremely brave to take on so many kids!! Please pass on our thanks to all concerned. Regards, Manjit & Gillian Ahluwalia

Mr & Mars Ahluwalia
Many thanks for your very kind comments. I will ensure that Miss Mitchell and the PGL team are made aware of your feelings. I hope you enjoyed the PGL evening last night. I though that the children did great and they clearly had enjoyed their experience.

Q:Dear Mr Mills, I just wondered why the Hillingdon showcase that some of the kids participated hasn't appeared on twitter or the newsletter? It was a fantastic showcase for our kids and they and the teachers worked extremely hard but disappointingly couldn't see a mention of it either post the event or pre the event? (I know they did rehearsals in the school) At Beck theatre when our kids came on stage the cheers and applause were luke warm compared to other schools which was a real shame. It really was fantastic show and had it been more advertised perhaps more parents would have bought more tickets? Do you know if any teachers attended as many other teachers were on stage? Thank you for organising, this is great for a child's confidence and should be celebrated - perhaps a point for next time? Thank you for reading as always

Jas
Many thanks for your comments. We will ensure that this event is posted next year.

Q: Hi Mr Mills Just wanted to thank you for bringing back the buddy system during playtime and the friendship stop as this seems to have been inconsistent over the years. Could I ask this be visible in the playground so kids know to come to this area as having no friends can seriously dent a child's confidence and learning intake as especially in year 5 there are so many cliques that children form as they get older that can easily reject children which can be soul destroying as has happened to my child for the past few years. This is a great initiative Thanks

J
May thanks for your positive comments. It is very important to all staff at Oak Farm Junior School, that all children feel safe, secure and included.

Q: Dear Mr Mills, I hope you are well. I was hoping to bump into you over the last few weeks but due to not doing regular school runs this has not happened. I wanted to show you Jeeyas blistered and cut up hands solely caused by the monkey bars in the school playground. This has been ongoing and I've have asked her several times to avoid these but she's a child and enjoys them regardless of the numerous blisters on both hands. Last week she even came home with plasters from school due the blisters popping and leaving sore red skin. Jeeya says it does happen to other children too so it's not just her. I was hoping if possible something can be added to these monkey bars (some rubber cover etc) to avoid this happening. If you get an chance to see Jeeyas hands please do so. Kindest regards Harpreet Tamber

Mrs Tamber
I was very sorry to read this communication and I will certainly see if there is anything that we can do regarding the monkey bars. Please ask Jeeya to come and see me, so that I can see her hands talk to her about how it occurs.

Q: My daughter dose not like swimming in deep water make sure she is allowed to go in the shallow water

Mrs Wheeler
I will pass this information on to Mr Betts. Qualified staff at the pool manage swimming lessons and no child is asked or expected to move into deeper water until they are confident to do so.

Q:Hi Mr Mills Re: Cycling My daughter chose not to do the cycling proficiency test which was a real shame. I know there will be another repeat in year 6 but just wondered if it will be mandatory for all year 6 to do as left up to my daughter she wont go again! Also surprised we didn't receive a letter to advise us of this programme in year 5 as you usually inform us of such events. Its so important for them to have road awareness and thank you for arranging this its much appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you Thank you

Cycling:
Many thanks for your communication regarding this excellent opportunity for children to develop the skills required to ride their bikes safely on the roads. This is not a mandatory program but one I believe all children should take the opportunity to participate in. I would be happy to talk to your daughter, if you felt that this may help her to participate in the program. I am sorry that you did not receive a bike-ability letter, however I am assured that one was sent out.

Q: Hi Mr Mills I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the Year 3 & 4 production of Oink. The standard of performance was very good and the children were well rehearsed. It was clear that they were having so much fun and really enjoying the opportunity to perform and show their many skills and talents. Please thank the staff on our behalf for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the children. Jane

Jane
Many thanks for your kind words. I will pass them on to all staff involved. It never fails to amaze me, at how well our children perform during our productions. I believe that great credit must go to the children, staff and parents, who all work together to stage these events.
Well done to all and thank you.

Q: Dear Mr Mills, I write further to our conversation held today on the playground of Oak Farm School. I wish to make a formal complaint against Papulum. My daughter Alejandra Brough complained for two days she was unable to eat her school dinners because the food was provided to her in a soggy and incomplete state. I will provide the following example: On Tuesday 12/04/2016 they had pizza and she complained it was soggy and the presentation was below an acceptable standard. Also on Wednesday 13/04/2016 she was supposed to be given Chicken Korma but was actually served a portion of rice only without any chicken. As you are fully aware Papulum get paid for the school dinners and they need to provide the same quantity of food for all the children including Year 6. I am deeply unhappy that my child was not fed sufficiently for two consecutive days and I would ask that this matter be given your urgent priority. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Maria Brough.

Mrs Brough
Many thanks for your communication. I have spoken to the kitchen and to pabulum. They have apologised and have increased the number of servings provided. I hope that this resolves the problem.

Q:What's your favorite subjects?

Adam
Many thanks for this question, I have never been asked before on this site what my favourite subject is.
I would have to say that it is history, because I believe that we can learn so much by investigating what happened in our past. I love to find out how people in the past lived, not kings or Queens but people that lived normal lives.

Q: Good Afternoon Mr Mills, I just wanted to bring to your attention of an incident that happened today regarding Mother's Day gifts. We received a phone call telling us our son is extremely upset as the ã2 had not been paid, therefore could we come in and provide it. Obviously upset we said we had already paid in a clearly named envelope, we was then told ok don't worry and that was it. I then had to ring the school to see if my son was ok. It's distressing enough to hear our son was upset but we are sending our children with clearly marked envelopes containing money and not knowing if it's been received especially dinner money which is large amount. Surely there must be a system to let parents know when monies have been received?

I can only apologise for this incident and I say that I am very sorry that your son was upset. As a rule the school does not send out receipts for small amounts of money, this is due to the large amount of money that passes through the school. There are unfortunately occasions when monies are mislaid but these are rare. It is however something that the school is aware of and are concerned about. We are currently investigating cashless money systems, to see if there is one suitable, that will meet parental and school needs.

Yours
A Mills

Q:Hi Mr Mills, Firstly thank you for these "stars of the month" etc as my child has received this - as its these little things that are so motivating for children to want to do better. I know Ms Mcura is excellent at giving out stickers etc and although it seems insignificant to an adult its well received by a child! So thank you Ms Mcura too! The question I have is to ask if you are twinned with a local Hillingdon secondary school such as Vyners as I understand Ryefield School is. I understand even some of their children help out at lessons and just wondered if you already do this with Vyners or a school in Hillingdon that would fall in the Oak farm catchment area for the local children.. Thank you

Thank you very much for your kind words. I believe that Ryfield is part of the Vyners academy group and as such they are sharing skills, which will support the other school.
As I am sure you are aware, Oak Farm Juniors at present has decided not to go down this road, as we feel that to do so could loose us our ethos and identity.
When available however, we do link up with local secondary schools, so that our children can access the secondary experience.

Q: RE Letter Dated 12 January 2016 To The Parents Of Charlie Moore 4KR Dear Mr Mills We thank you for the above letter congratulating Charlie on being awarded the most house points for her class but I would like to ask you why you keep referring to my daughter as a he on your letters, this is now the fourth consecutive letter this has happened on. I appreciate my daughter has a unisex name but this is quite frankly appalling I can understand one letter but four? Surely you or your secretary have access to her details or could ask one of her teachers her sex as quite frankly these letters mean nothing when your referring to her as a he. I look forward to receiving your comments. With Regards Paul & Joanne Moore

Mr & Mrs Moore
There is no excuse for this recurring error and I can only apologise for our mistakes. I will do everything possible to ensure that this never occurs again.
Yours
Mr Mills

Q: Good afternoon Mr Mills, Just a thought/suggestion for you. At the end of term when the children have 100% attendance would you consider giving the children a ã5 voucher from, maybe, WHSmith along with their certificate as a little extra for them? This was done at my sons previous school and was well received by the children when they went on stage to accept their certificate. Just gives the children something to aim for rather than just a piece of card with their name on? I have asked this question anonymously as I dont want you to think that I am just after a little extra at the end of term for my son - I know there is a lot of children that gain 100% attendance at the school. Look forward to your reply.

Many thanks for your message and idea. While I think this would be a nice thing to do, I believe the cost of it could prove difficult to maintain. I will however look at the cost implications and consider it.#

Q:Hi Mr Mills Just wanted to say class 5m did a great job with their play and credit goes to Ms Mcura and team who must have worked really hard behind the scenes on this. Well done - us parents really enjoyed it! Jas

Q:Please could I request that, if year 3 do a Christmas production this year, different children get a role to previous years. Throughout the infants school the same children have had acting and narrating parts (some children multiple parts in one production) and a lot of children have never stepped on the stage or had a chance to speak. I have deliberately requested this anonymously as I don't want you to think I am pushing for my own child to get a star part! I know I speak for a lot of parents that we would just like to see more children get a chance to have a go, rather than see the children who are already good at performing each year. Thanks for your Time

Many thanks for your communication regarding the allocation of parts in school performances. The school for all its performances, operates open auditions, where any child is able to audition for any part. The whole year group team then meet to discuss the best person to fit any particular role. My view is that we are as fair as we can be in the way that we decide who will play which role. Finally,Year 6 are currently rehearsing for a performance at Christmas this year.

Q:It is lovely that you give out awards to the kids at the end of each term, but I have no idea how many awards you give and what they are all for. Would it be possible to put up a list of awards and winners on the website? Just a thought! Kind regards, Liz Daffern

To Liz Daffern

I would like to thank you for this suggestion. I think it is a very good idea. I will discuss it with the school senior leadership team at our next meeting.

Q:Great to see this new forum, may I ask the following questions: (1)Parent Governors (a) what is their function? (b) how do they represent parent's views as I personally have never been asked? (c) do they have their own contact details/can we as parents contact them? (d) how independent are they from the school? (2) Friendship - Some children don't have friends to play with - unfortunately even playgrounds get political! there does not seem to be a "friendship stop" that is manned or activity area as in infants, can one be set up as this kind of loneliness can really affect a chid's esteem and schooling or perhaps there is one? (4) Are we joining forces with Hayes Manor? If this s true, what are the benefits of us learning from them? What are the reasons and why could we not join with a more successful school to improve our results further? (5) Are Teachers rewarded dependant on success of teaching results? If not what is the incentive apart from the obvious reasons (6) How are teachers getting used to the new curriculum? (7) When there are assemblies it appears the same people are picked to present, could other children be picked to improve their confidence?

Mrs Kate Grey
Thank you for your questions. I will try to answer them fully.

1) Parent governors represent the views of parents on the FGB. They are full members of the governing body, and are expected to attend all meetings, join different FGB groups, such as finance or curriculum and have the same responsibility as governors as all other FGB members. They are also who I answer to regarding the performance of the school. They can also be contacted by parents through either the school or by requesting the clerks contact details.
2)While the school does not have a friendship stop, we operate a wide range of support for all children in the playground and in school, which responds to individual needs. We are constantly reviewing our provision and react as required to meet the needs of children. I am happy to look at this strategy when we return in September.
3) I have no knowledge of any move to join with Hayes Manor. We are currently looking at academy status, but we will only do this, if in our view it is good for the children and good for the school.
4)All staff salaries in school are linked to performance related pay, of which results are a part.
5) The new curriculum has now been in place for most of the school for most of this year. We are currently reviewing its impact and changes will be made id required after staff discussions. The bigger issue for school is the new assessment model and the fact that as yet we have no national benchmark to judge progress by.
6)I am unaware of children being picked to present in assemblies. I take the Monday assembly, which is mainly rewards and notices and the other whole school assembly is led by one of the assistant heads, which has its own focus. We very rarely have children presenting and when they do, it is for something specific that an individual has achieved.

Q: I have enjoyed seeing all the tweets from the school trips. can I just confirm that the profile is restricted so that the school has to approve followers, especially as there are photos. thanks Helen

Many thanks for this question. Miss Mitchell manages Twitter in school and I have asked her to contact you regarding this matter.

I have checked with the school office and all letters passed to them are put on the website. I have asked that all staff are contacted to try and ensure that in future all letters are posted.
